Vietnam records highest ever temperature
Hot on the heels of yesterday’s post about last month’s heatwave in Spain, Portugal, Morocco and Algeria comes news that Vietnam experienced its highest ever temperature when the northern province of Thanh Hoa recorded a temperature of 44.1 degrees Celsius. The previous record of 43.6 degrees Celsius was from 2019 in central Ha Tinh province. Local officials warned people to stay inside during the hottest periods of the day and reportedly increased temperatures are forcing workings to start earlier in the day and finish by 10am to avoid the worst of the heat.
The BBC story quotes climate change expert Nguyen Ngoc Huy telling AFP that Vietnam's new record was "worrying" given the "context of climate change and global warming", adding "I believe this record will be repeated many times. It confirms that extreme climate models are being proven to be true."
