Take a stand

Mother Theresa once said “I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.”

We think that quote embodies exactly what all of us can do if we choose to make our voice heard. Politicians and big business alike respond to public pressure - ultimately politicians want your vote and businesses want your money, so if enough of us tell them they need to make certain promises in order to get our support then they might just listen. They rely on our apathy to maintain the status quo and we must remember we are citizens above consumers.

Here are some ways you can take a stand - some of the ideas below take more effort than others so start with something easy and work from there:

• Tell your elected representative the policies you are looking for when choosing who to support

• VOTE VOTE VOTE

• Buy sustainable products - every time you do you are sending a message to companies that have unsustainable practices

• Research whether your bank is involved in financing the fossil fuel industry. If they are write to them and ask them to stop. If they don’t consider switching banks.

• Research whether your energy provider uses renewable energy sources. If they don’t write to them and ask them to start. If they don’t consider switching providers.
