Gearing up for the next fight
The World Health Organisation (WHO) declared on Friday that the Covid-19 pandemic no longer constituted a global health emergency. The coronavirus outbreak had held that status since 30 January 2020, when at the time the virus had spread from China to 20 other countries. Covid-19 has claimed the lives of at least 6.9 million people to date, and affected the health of 765 million others. The pandemic has been a global event that has rightly occupied much of our attention over the past few years, and at a later date we’ll look at the lessons that can be learnt. However for now, I was reminded of a cartoon I saw in The Economist (presciently in April 2020) that I wanted to share:
